Election Time

Since the Japanese are very methodical, it was no surprise to us that their political campaign system would be the same. A few weeks ago, these large white and blue boards with numbers appeared all over the city. A couple days later, we found out they are for politicians to hang their campaign posters. It's illegal here to campaign door-to-door or just hang campaign posters anywhere, so each candidate is assigned a number and they can only hang one poster on each board. The best part is, the campaigning only lasts two weeks! I imagine those boards and posters will be taken down promptly after tomorrow's voting is complete.

Campaign board

We love her big, bright smile. Everytime we walk by,
we can't help but think, "You go girl!" We hope she wins.

Campaigning over loud speakers is one thing we
won't be missing when the election is over. One of
these vans drives down our street every five minutes.
(This one just happened to be "You go girl!")
